What Board & Train includes
Your dog stays at the facility while trainers work on agreed goals through structured practice, consistent handling and rest. The plan may focus on obedience, leash manners, recall, impulse control or confidence around distractions.
Training, care routines and practice matched to your dog's learning stage.
Coaching and follow-up so the same cues and expectations make sense at home.
Ordinary boarding provides overnight care. Board & Train adds a training plan. A longer stay alone does not guarantee a particular result.
Five things to compare before enrolling
Ask each provider to explain these five areas in plain language. Compare the actual plan and written terms rather than a promise of a perfectly trained dog.
- How your dog will settle into the routine.
- What skills trainers will practice and how they will measure progress.
- How they introduce distractions and respond to stress.
- When you will receive updates and take part in coaching.
- What follow-up and home practice are included.
01 / A routine your dog can settle into
Ask about sleeping arrangements, feeding instructions, potty breaks, rest periods and how dogs are handled around one another. Share medication needs, anxiety, bite history and previous boarding experiences before enrollment.
A useful plan makes room for acclimation. At BNSP 317, the first week focuses on helping the dog settle into the environment and establish working routines.
02 / Clear goals and consistent practice
“Better behavior” is a starting point. Make it concrete: walking with less leash tension, waiting at a doorway, settling on place or responding to a recall cue under appropriate conditions.
Ask what the trainers will do, what equipment or methods may be used and how the plan changes if your dog needs more time. We discuss goals and the training approach during the consultation. Owner practice is part of carrying those skills home.
03 / Distractions introduced at the right pace
A dog who responds in a quiet training area may need more practice around people, other dogs and everyday noise. Ask how a provider builds from manageable distractions to more challenging situations.
Public outings and close exposure are not appropriate for every dog at every stage. Goals should reflect safety, temperament and progress. For a longer plan built around applying skills outside the facility, compare our 60-day and 90-day Real World Training options.
04 / Useful updates and owner involvement
Progress updates should explain what your dog is practicing, what is improving and what still needs work. Ask about the communication schedule before enrolling rather than assuming daily videos or constant messaging.
BNSP 317 uses the client portal for progress updates. Owner coaching begins after the initial acclimation period, with the first one-on-one typically in week two and weekly participation thereafter according to the plan.
05 / A plan for the day your dog comes home
Ask the trainer to demonstrate the cues, handling and routines you will use. Practice them together before expecting your dog to repeat the same skills in a different environment.
Our listed 21-day, 30-day and 45-day Board & Train packages include two follow-up sessions. Follow-ups must be used within 30 days of departure. Review your selected program's agreement for its complete terms and scheduling requirements.
Keep practice short and consistent. Discuss setbacks with your trainer so the plan can be adjusted to your household.

Our Day Training membership offers a daytime training routine for eligible dogs. It is not an aggression program.
Puppies and dogs with behavior concerns need a plan suited to their age, history and goals. Start with an evaluation rather than assuming the longest package is the right choice.

Aggression, anxiety and safety come first
Disclose any bite history, snapping, lunging, guarding or aggression toward people or animals before enrolling. Dogs displaying aggression require a behavioral evaluation and may need a specialized program or additional fees.
